Presenting ICTP Research Sections

The Centre celebrates research during 6 weeks dedicated to the ICTP research sections
Presenting ICTP Research Sections

ICTP is widely regarded as an extraordinary environment for advancing knowledge in the physical and mathematical sciences, with a permanent faculty of distinguished scientists who conduct rigorous world-class, curiosity-driven research in frontier and interdisciplinary science ranging from string theory, cosmology, and black holes to quantum computing, climate science, and quantitative life sciences. In addition to conducting advanced research, members of the ICTP faculty teach and mentor hundreds of students and young researchers every year, equipping them to go on to study, teach, and conduct research in the world’s finest universities, and to contribute to the development of science in their home countries.

As science evolves to investigate new problems and answer new questions, so has the research carried out at ICTP. Founded by theoretical particle physicist and Nobel Prize Laureate Abdus Salam, over time ICTP has evolved to encompass a wide range of topics in physics, including applications of science technology. Today, ICTP supports cutting-edge research on wide-ranging topics in physical science and mathematics, including 6 research sections:

Starting on Monday 29 April and over the upcoming weeks, ICTP will be releasing a series of new videos featuring the heads of ICTP’s research sections as they present the main research lines explored by their groups. Each week, for six weeks, you will have the opportunity to delve into the science investigated by each research section, through dedicated content on social media.

  • Week 1 (29 April – 3 May) High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics
  • Week 2 (6 – 10 May) Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics
  • Week 3 (13 – 17 May) Mathematics
  • Week 4 (20 – 24 May) Earth System Physics
  • Week 5 (27 – 31 May) Quantitative Life Sciences
  • Week 6 (3 – 7 June) Science, Technology and Innovation
