ICTP's Quantitative Life Sciences (QLS) section seeks applications from outstanding young scientists of any nationality with a strong research record for one postdoctoral position starting in autumn 2023/winter 2024.
The QLS section provides a unique international, multidisciplinary research environment for postdoctoral fellows with about 15 group members (faculty, postdocs, graduate students and visitors) an intense program of workshops and conferences, close collaborations with local institutions (SISSA, ICGEB, Trieste University) and internationally-renowned research institutions. Postdoctoral fellows are encouraged, and supported, to participate in activities in developing countries in order to promote the mission of the ICTP and to contribute to the teaching activities of the ICTP QLS Diploma programme.
Candidates should have a background in statistical physics or computer science or applied mathematics, and be able to carry active multidisciplinary research in one or more of the following fields of interest of the QLS section:
- statistical physics of information processing
- reinforcement learning
- modeling of animal behavior, individual and/or collective
- control theory and optimization
- active matter
