Fueling Global Science
For more than six decades, ICTP has helped talented students and scientists from around the world connect with their international peers and community. They are at the heart of our mission: they are the people who advance knowledge and make science happen.
ICTP gives scientists the chance to access expertise, advanced resources, and international networks—regardless of where they come from.
To help ensure that these opportunities remain available for generations to come, ICTP has developed an endowment initiative that allows donors to create lasting support for scientists at different stages of their careers.
Investing in opportunities that last
An endowment is designed to provide long-term financial support for a specific purpose. Rather than being spent entirely at once, the donated capital is invested, with a portion of the proceeds used over time to support programmes and opportunities.
At ICTP, this means that a philanthropic gift can be directed towards a specific scientific purpose and continue to support that mission in perpetuity.
Supporting scientists at every stage
ICTP's endowment initiative offers opportunities across the scientific career pathway.
A contribution can support Physics Without Frontiers, helping university students in the Global South discover and pursue careers in physics and mathematics.
It can fund a Postgraduate Diploma scholarship, giving promising young graduates the opportunity to prepare for PhD studies in an international scientific environment.
Donors can also endow scholarships for ICTP's Master's programmes, including Medical Physics and High Performance Computing, or support STEP fellowships, which enable PhD students from developing countries to combine doctoral studies at their home universities with research visits to ICTP and partner institutions.
For scientists further along in their careers, endowment opportunities include TRIL fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, Associateships and sabbaticals. These programmes help researchers maintain international connections, develop new collaborations and bring knowledge and expertise back to their home institutions.
The initiative also includes opportunities to support ICTP's many illustrious prizes, its faculty, researchers, scientific sections and international visiting chairs, as well as specific geographic regions and scientific infrastructure.
Creating your own legacy at ICTP
ICTP's endowment initiative offers donors the opportunity to support a particular programme, scientific field or geographic region. These opportunities can also be named in consultation with the donor, creating a lasting connection between a philanthropic legacy and the advancement of science.
Whether supporting a young student taking their first steps in science or an established researcher pursuing new ideas, each endowment represents an investment that will sustain scientific progress and forward the mission of ICTP for many years to come.
Help build the future of global science
ICTP was founded on the vision of Abdus Salam, who believed that science could help build bridges between countries and create opportunities for talented people regardless of their geographical or economic circumstances. Today, that vision continues through the thousands of scientists who pass through ICTP each year.

Anyone can support endowment
You do not have to fund an entire endowment to participate in this initiative. Along with the opportunities listed above, ICTP is creating endowment funds that donors can support at any giving level. The first of these is a Diploma Scholarship in memory of Prof. Karim Aoudia, which was established this past year.
All donations to this fund up to €30K are currently being matched by ICTP's longtime friend and first endowment donor, Adnan Shihab-Eldin. Click here to learn more.
