The first ICTP-IBM Richard Feynman Prize for Quantum Computing will be awarded to Ignacio Cirac at a ceremony on 21 April at 14:00 hrs CEST at ICTP.
At the event, Cirac will give a lecture on “Quantum computers and many-body states,” discussing how small-scale quantum computers and simulators can help us address challenging problems in many-body physics. The work of the winner will be introduced by Artur Ekert, a professor at the University of Oxford, who is among the world’s main experts in quantum information, and a member of the Prize selection committee. The ceremony will also be attended by Michelle Feynman, daughter of quantum pioneer Richard Feynman, whom the prize honours.
The event is part of the two-week School on Quantum Computing and Simulation, which ICTP has organised jointly with IBM, as part of a collaboration started in 2025.
Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
