ICTP's partner institute in Rwanda, the East African Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-EAIFR), seeks candidates for the position of Director. Based in Kigali at the University of Rwanda (UR), the institute was created in 2018 with a view to position itself as a leading research and training institute in Eastern Africa in the broad area of theoretical and applied physics. ICTP-EAIFR currently runs a vibrant programme consisting of in-house full-time research faculty, PhD students and students enrolled in a 2-year Master's programme in Physics. Since its inception, EAIFR has hosted visiting scientists from around the globe and run numerous workshops and schools.
The main responsibilities of the ICTP-EAIFR Director include:
- Provide intellectual and organizational leadership and strategic guidance to the institute to assess and improve its relevance and impact.
- Develop and maintain a high caliber of science at the ICTP-EAIFR, and to promote advanced scientific research and education within and beyond the African continent.
- Engage with the scientific community both in the developed and developing world to address emerging global issues and science for development with a focus on Africa.
Candidates should have a PhD in the Physical Sciences or related fields, with at least 10 years’ experience in scientific research and administration including experience in international contexts, and have a distinguished academic stature as proven by publication track record.
