Happy Birthday SciFabLab!

Maker space invites public to Open Day anniversary celebration
Happy Birthday SciFabLab!

How do 3D printers work? What can you make with a laser cutter? ICTP's Scientific Fabrication Laboratory (SciFabLab), which is hosting an Open Day tomorrow, Wednesday 12 August, from 09:00 until 21:00, will answer these questions and more. And to sweeten the invitation, the SciFabLab is offering free ice cream to the first 100 visitors!

Spread out over an area of 350 square meters on the ground floor of the Fermi Building, the SciFabLab is celebrating its first anniversary by welcoming the public to see its modern and versatile computer-controlled rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser engraving and cutting machines.

The people who use these tools, known as "makers", will be on hand to showcase the many educational and scientific products that can be produced. These range from robots to microcontrollers to Internet of Things applications.

In the past year, the SciFabLab has offered 700 hours of time for makers to work on projects; support from the Commune of Trieste allowed the Lab to hire two additional assistants.
