Did you miss ICTP's 2015 Distinguished Salam Lectures by renowned mathematician and ICTP Distinguished Staff Associate Don Zagier? Or perhaps you want to revisit some of the points from his lectures? You can now watch the complete series either on ICTP's YouTube channel or the 2015 Distinguished Salam Lectures progamme webpage.
Titled "The Magic of Modular Forms", the series ran from 26 to 30 January. Each lecture is self-contained and can be viewed as a stand-alone talk. In an interview with the ICTP Public Information Office, Zagier says he chose to lecture on modular forms because it is his biggest love and his own field of interest. He says that modular forms have recently become important not only in mathematics but also mathematical physics, for example in string theory.
The interview with Zagier is also on the ICTP YouTube channel. Among other things, Zagier talks about when and why he decided to pursue mathematics, what his favorite equation is, why he believes mathematics is crucial to sciences, and his advice to students who want to pursue a career in mathematics.
ICTP's Salam Distinguished Lecture Series is an annual presentation of talks by renowned, active scientists and mathematicians. The aim is to showcase important research developments as well as provide a visionary forward view. The series is supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
