Congratulations to Kok Sing Lim from the Photonics Research Centre, University of Malaya, Malaysia, the recipient of the twentieth Gallieno Denardo Award! He is being recognized for both his work and his promotion of research activities in Malaysia in a ceremony on February 18, 2020. The ICO/ICTP Gallieno Denardo Award honors young researchers in optics and photonics, given in collaboration with the International Commission on Optics.
The ceremony will take place at 16:30 on Tuesday, February 18 in ICTP's Budinich Lecture Hall, and will be livestreamed on ICTP's Youtube and Facebook pages.
The award is given during the ICTP Winter College on Optics, which is focusing this year on quantum photonics and information. The recipient is invited and supported to attend the college, given a monetary award, and is invited to deliver the ICO-ICTP Gallieno Denardo Prize Lecture on their research to a large number of their colleagues from all over the world.
Dr. Lim has been recognized "for his achievements in the field of optical fibre sensing and optical communications, and his substantial contributions to sustainable development in Malaysia through promoting the use of optics-based technologies in the industrial sector."
The International Commission for Optics (ICO) and the ICTP established the Award in 2000. In September 2007, the ICTP and ICO agreed to dedicate the Award to the memory and legacy of the late Prof. Gallieno Denardo, who greatly contributed to the development of optics research within ICTP and in developing countries. The prize has recognized many researchers under 40 from developing countries doing distinguished and important work in optics and photonics.
